Supposedly a one-hour drive, it took us three hours to get there because we stopped so many times for photos!
Attractions:
- Lake Pukaki
- Mt. Cook (Aoraki)
- We only did the Hooker Valley Track, as my parents were too tired to continue after this one, which took 3-4 hours to complete.
- Big Sky Stargazing (https://www.hermitage.co.nz/experience/big-sky-stargazing/)
- Due to poor weather conditions that night, the activity was cancelled at the last minute 🙁
- Tasman Glacier Explorer (https://www.hermitage.co.nz/experience/glacier-explorers/)
Accommodation:
Three of the most popular sites to consider:
- Hermitage Hotel: $$$
- Mount Cook Lodge and Motels: $$
- White Horse Hill Campground: $, if you are traveling with a camping car, this would be a great option for stargazing at night
The only tip that I had for this part of the trip is that you should book the accommodation and the activities way way way in advance due to the popularity of this place. Basically no one that is coming to New Zealand for the first time and is not going to visit Aoraki. Very expensive but worth every penny.
